Best & Worst Trick or Treat Goodies

WORST:

Taffy
Taffy sticks to everything inside of your mouth, including the grooves of your teeth.

Lollipops
Come on, Dum Dum! Hard candy such as lollipops or jawbreakers take a long time to dissolve, creating a more acidic environment.

Sour Patch Kids
Sour candy is bad for your teeth because it has a higher acidic content, which can break down tooth enamel. So no Lemonheads, either.

GOOD:

Plain Chocolate
Everyone loves that cool house that gives out the full size Hershey's bars! Just make sure they're the kind without nuts, which settle in the grooves of teeth.

BETTER:

Sugar-free Gum
Spearmint is kind of a lame flavor for kids, but you can get fruit-flavored sugar-free gum, too. My daughter loves those new Trident Layers flavors.

BEST:

Apples
Dr. Timothy Chase says, "If possible it would be much better to put down the candy and grab a piece of fruit." But Danielle Sullivan is right when she says apples are no fun to give at Halloween. So I say go with chocolate or packs of gum.
